Happy Whip It Up Wednesday! Today, I thought I would share a “treat” my kids request a lot! And I never mind making these “treats” because they benefit from them so much! It doesn’t hurt that I reeeeally enjoy them myself. There are so many variations to smoothies and a lot of times it all depends on what flavor yogurt and type of fruit I currently have, but this is probably their most favorite. Don’t they just look like a milkshake!? Now, of course for this one I *may* have added a little whipped cream to the top. (wink, wink)
Our Strawberry Smoothie:
1 whole banana
2 strawberry greek yogurts
1 Tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup orange juice
large handful of spinach
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
I throw everything in my blender and enjoy. This recipe makes 2 big servings.
Sometimes I use frozen fruit and other times fresh. I never let my fruit go bad. This doesn’t happen very often, but on occasion if I see we aren’t going to eat it before going bad, I just throw it in a freezer bag to freeze and use for smoothies. I do this with bananas more than anything. If you are using frozen fruit, you really don’t need to add ice. If you are using fresh, you probably want to add some ice to your recipe.
Often times we have these as an afternoon treat, but sometimes we will make them for breakfast, as well. This is also so yummy with blueberries. Sometimes I’ll even mix up the yogurt flavor. My kids love these and they really enjoy making them with me too! This is a great way to get veggies in your babies if they aren’t a fan. You can not taste the spinach at all. We have tried kale and you can not taste it, however, the consistency isn’t as smooth. Also, if your kids are picky about consistency, you may want to omit the chia seeds. They have zero flavor. I’ve just been told they are good for me, so I throw them in. Haha!
I hope you are having a wonderful week. It’s still so hard to believe we are finally in summer break. I don’t know about y’all, but I never thought it would get here. I am loving our lazy mornings and afternoons at the pool lately. It’s been such a nice change to the hustle and bustle of school days. Thank you all for being here! Love you all!
